Rare and highly distinctive sofa model “Neapel”, designed by Stefano Tongiani for IKEA, circa 1972.
This sculptural three-seat sofa is upholstered in cognac-colored leather and represents an early and highly collectible period of IKEA production, when the company collaborated with international designers and produced furniture with a strong continental and architectural character.
The design is defined by a bold, brutalist silhouette, generous proportions and a low seating height, combined with an unmistakably Italian 1970s expression — a striking contrast to the modular IKEA designs that followed in later decades.
⸻
Condition
The sofa is in very good vintage condition, with a beautiful natural patina consistent with age and use.
The elastic webbing in the seat has been replaced, ensuring excellent comfort and structural stability.
