Marianne Westman for Rörstrand
Studio Vase, Sweden, 1960s
Stoneware • Height 23 cm • Diameter 16 cm
Signed: R / MW / ATELJÉ / SWEDEN
A beautifully hand-thrown stoneware vase by Marianne Westman, created in the Rörstrand Studio during the 1960s. Made in chamotte-fired stoneware with a textured surface and a warm brown and grey-green glaze, characteristic of Westman’s more artisanal and limited studio production. Excellent vintage condition with no chips or restorations.
About Marianne Westman
Marianne Westman (1928–2017) is one of Rörstrand’s most beloved designers, often referred to as “the queen of colour” for her iconic ceramic tableware such as Mon Amie, Picknick, Koka Blue and Pomona. Alongside her commercial successes, she also created a smaller body of studio stoneware—more sculptural, experimental and made in very limited quantities.
Rörstrand Studio / Ateljé
The Rörstrand Ateljé was the artistic heart of the factory, where leading designers like Westman, Carl-Harry Stålhane and Gunnar Nylund worked with short series, hand-thrown forms and unique glazes. Pieces from the studio are recognised for:
• Chamotte stoneware with expressive textures
• Natural glazes in earthy tones
• Hand-signed bases
• Small production runs, making them highly collectible today
This vase exemplifies Westman’s 1960s aesthetic: robust, architectural and deeply rooted in the Scandinavian studio-ceramics tradition.
