A rare and highly decorative collection of 11 sculptural ashtrays by the iconic Swedish glass artist Erik Höglund for Boda Glasbruk.
Produced in the 1960s, these pieces are characteristic examples of Höglund’s playful and expressive world of glass — where he worked with bold colour, humour, folklore, primitive/naive expression and tactile cast motifs inside the glass.
Each piece is pressed in thick coloured glass in deep tones of amber, yellow, red and orange, with different embossed animal and face motifs — all unique, all slightly different, all full of personality.
The colour variations in this set are very unusual to find as a group.
Höglund was one of Sweden’s most important and influential postwar glass artists, active at Boda (later Kosta Boda) where he introduced a new artistic language — away from the elegant “perfect” Swedish modern glass — into something more raw, warm, honest and narrative. Today his work is highly collected and sought after internationally.
Perfect as decorative sculptural objects, for collectors, for styling, or as standalone art accents.
